The optical extension of my eye

To anyone who's interested in photography the absolute answer to all questions, the Holly Grail of photography is a Leica. It's beauty, stunning simplicity and unquestionable perfection have made the Leica every real photographers tool of choice. The New Yorker's Anthony Lane has written this great article about the history and unique magic of Leica cameras. I don't know about you, but I definitively dream about owning a Leica M, but the 4000 dollar price tag for a Leica MP is a high mountain to climb, still I'm sure one day I'll look at the world through the eye of a Leica. Of course I wouldn't say no to this mean motherfucker.

Namaste, crazy little Shah

It seems like Apple is really turning to the Dark side, apparently they're going to send some of their best goodies to Walker's best friend. Ah Fake Steve I love you (but still less than El Jobso himself). Just guess which line made me cry (in what way is up to your interpretation).

We peaked five minutes ago

This amazing masterpiece just made my day, and let me say it was already a great day. This is a great "analysis" and recollection of the making of the world history's greatest album. It really brings you one small step closer to understanding the greatness of this unbelievable piece of artistic expression and maybe, just maybe, a tiny, tiny, tiny baby step closer to understanding the Deputy Master of the Universe and all Existence.

PS. this list is of course absolutely rubbish, we all know which (number 9) album really is number one

Come fly with me

You know, since the last iPod lineup was refreshed and after the iPhone 200-dollar-price-cut (which is the masterstroke of a pure genius, yes El Jobso I mean you) wannabe scandal there was this crazy build-up of negative energy surrounding Apple, and not to mention all the fuzz about NBC leaving the iTunes Store, it really seemed like Apple peaked June 29, but just to make all the naysayers shut up Apple's stock closed yesterday with an all time high. I'll just say: GO APPLE GO!

No one is cooler than Johnny Cash, except Bob Dylan, but even Bob Dylan thinks that no one is cooler than Johnny Cash

Here's a great story from Rosanne Cash and how cool she felt back in 1969, the day after Bob Dylan sang together with Johnny "Girl of the North Country" at The Johnny Cash Show.

Nano rising

Here's a great picture of 40 of Apple's latest iPod nanos submitted by flickr user aaronsteele. I really love this picture, it makes an amazing desktop background.

You got your brand new Leopard-skin pill-box hat

According to Infinte Loop the newest build of OS X 10.5 Leopard must be one of the last, because to be able to meet the October deadline Apple must send the Gold Master next week to mass production, but Loop's Charley Jade asks a good question: Is that a good thing?
Well I don't know if Leopard is ready to be shipped, if it's bug free or to the taste of every single ADC member out there and let me tell you - I don't care. Leopard is already late, I want it out as soon as possible and having complete trust in Apple's software update philosophy I'm sure all the remaining major bugs are going to be fixed very soon.

Friday afternoon poetry with Bobby D.

From today on I'm going to start a new tradition here at CST, every Friday I'll post some lyrics/poetry from Bob Dylan and sometimes, on special occasions there will be even some bonus poetry.

So here's the first edition of Friday afternoon poetry with Bobby D.:

It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It don't matter, anyhow
An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If you don't know by now
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on
Don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talkin' anyway
So don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
Like you never did before
It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' all the way down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right

BONUS POETRY:

Oh, I'm sailin' away my own true love,
I'm sailin' away in the morning.
Is there something I can send you from across the sea,
From the place that I'll be landing?

No, there's nothin' you can send me, my own true love,
There's nothin' I wish to be ownin'.
Just carry yourself back to me unspoiled,
From across that lonesome ocean.

Oh, but if I had the stars from the darkest night
And the diamonds from the deepest ocean,
I'd forsake them all for your sweet kiss,
For that's all I'm wishin' to be ownin'.

Maybe mum is still the word

I'm a little bit disappointed, although I expected today's Apple Special Event to be just as it turned out to be, I was still hoping for one more thing, even something small, like the Beatles catalog on iTS, but nothing, Steve gave a pretty boring show, maybe we're just expecting to much from our favorite fruit company.

Mum is no longer the word

For those of you who live under a rock, Apple is holding a special event in London entitled "Mum is no longer the word" (I'll admit I still don't get it) today at 10am local time. Like most people I expect an announcement of the iPhone in the UK (the release dates for the rest of Europe will most likely be announced at the Apple Expo Paris next week), but maybe, just maybe,... I feel the Apple fanboy in me taking over, can't resist....must wright objective blog....ah, Hello people in just over an hour Apple is going to announce a 3G 16GB iPhone to be released today in the UK and until the end of October in the rest of Europe, the carrier for your country will be " " (enter the name of the carrier you have just signed this totally awesome 2 year contract with, and you can't brake out of it, at least not without paying a huge fee and you don't really want to), and expect one more thing (hint: it's around 12 inch in size, it's unbelievably beautiful and you can touch it "multiple times"), and after this there will be a live performance of The Beatles, Paul and Ringo of course in person and John and George will be Gorillaz-at-the-EMAs-style holograms and the entire Beatles catalog is coming to the iTS today.

UPDATE: you can follow the event at engadget.

StarWars Sandcrawler

I just read this very interesting article about the creative process behind the creation of the identity for the casa da musica. Stefan Sagmeister allows us this great insight and I highly recommend a visit to sagmeister.com, I just love the design of the page and the students section is an amazing source for young designers. Great find, it just made my day.

Come on, come on

I just got into this dylan mood today, so here's another great read, it's a 9.24.1965. interview with bob (yeah I can call him bob, we're cool), the part about idealism is just pure dylan-genius, but my favorite part is the one about money, but I won't spoil it for you, just read it, it's amazing, remember it's from 1965, bob's 23.

Dylanesque French

Today I'm all dylanesque, here's a really great read about dylan's performance at the ACL Festival, but it's more about dylan the artist, his life, work, his very own universe. I must agree enthusiasm is a really great explanation for dylan.

The Universe is not there

Here's a very nice review of the dylan uber-biopic I'm not there, but one small suggestion, skip the bs on page one and go right to page two.

Sudden end of my world

Well, dear readers (if there are any) today I'm going to drop a bombshell. I must admit that I don't make backups, and I mean nooo backups, nope, nothing. I know this is just plain stupid, but I like the rush of knowing that any day I could lose all, yes ALL my data (I only use a laptop, no secondary pc, no external, online drives/backups), and it's a great feeling. Every time I push the on button my adrenaline rises to levels comparable to that of fighter jet pilots (or at least somewhere in that region), but today I found this article and I must admit I'm now considering to start backing up. But I just love the thrill, the dangers of modern virtual existence to much, I must embrace my rebellious nature, to hell with backups.

Are you Gexperienced?

Here's an interesting read from The Official Gmail Blog about 10 little-known Gmail features. I must admit I knew most of them, but there are still some shiny unknown gems.

Art as entertainment

I can't wait anymore, I want to see it and I want to see it now! OK, OK I know I'll have to wait until November, but I really can't wait to see this amazing movie. Check this nice review of the movie, I especially love the last sentence "...a study of an artist captured from so many perspectives the artist almost disappears; that's no coincidence".

World domination: one step closer

OMG just read this article about apple destroying the cellphone industry by buying the 700MHz spectrum license, it's just great to read how apple has (again) become an unbelievably powerful company, it could even destroy an entire industry (put frankly the article is pure BS), but just in case...I SALUTE YOU ALMIGHTY STEVE, THE GREAT, RULER OF THE WORLD

Vive la France!

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the last guillotine execution in France. Maybe they should bring that one back (just joking, death to the death sentence).

Ringo's next big thing

Ringo phoned Fake Steve the other day and they had a very philosophical debate about the next big thing in music distribution, well I personally agree with Fake Steve, but maybe, just maybe Ringo's right and Paul really knows the answer. Oh Fake Steve we love you, even though we now that you're fake.

Hey Bill why don't you write me a check, I'll write anything you want

Here are some more reflections on Mike Elgan's masterpiece about apples and rotten tomatoes, I still can't believe that someone can write crap like this and still sleep at night, poor Mike driving in his new MS-labeled supercar.

I'm Not There, but I'm still here

Yesterday was a great day for cult director Todd Haynes and his latest picture " I'm Not There". Cate Blanchett (one of six actors, the others being Marcus Carl Franklin, Ben Whishaw, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Richard Gere, to play Bob Dylan, one of the most influential artists of all time) won the award for best actress at the Venice Film Festival and the movie won a Special Jury Price. After being awarded this prestigious award, Blanchett is now considered to be a favorite for the next Oscar awards. I must admit I've only seen some short scenes on youtube and of course the trailer, but it looks like a really amazing movie and Blanchett's Dylan is as close to the original as it can get (just a small reminder: Cate is a woman, bob is not). Being a huge bob fanatic, I'm really looking forward to this movie.

I can't believe someone paid Mike for this article (or maybe I can)

I just read the most stupid article ever written by man, animal or vegetable since the creation of the space-time continuum, this amazing piece of stupidity and unprofessional journalism was written by Computerworld's Mike Elgan. This, well I'll call it article (but should better call it a piece of s…), entitled "Is Apple the New Microsoft?" is just unbelievable, after reading half of the "thing" I thought that it's an april fool's joke (but then I noticed it's September). It's just a sad proof of the author's incompetence. There's a great analysis of this article on TUAW, I was going to write one myself, but I'm to shocked and disgusted to read this one more time.

iNap

four days ago I read this great article about sleeping and I decided to do this sleep management thing myself, the last days I woke up every morning at 7 am (believe me this is a huge improvement, I used to get up at 12am), but during the day I felt exhausted and drained, so I decided to sleep today until 9:30, just to recharge my batteries (what a shabby excuse), but then I found this article about power napping. I love the nano-nap (no, it's not a new apple product), but I think I'll stick with the regular power nap, its 20 minutes of pure energy/memory recharging goodness are just what I need to save my sleep management project from making a titanic. Which nap-type are you?

Miss Design

i just read this great article by Michael Bierut about the Miss Teen USA competition, or was it about design?

If you didn't notice...

…English isn't my native language, but i hope this won't be a problem (for me and for you), and maybe this will be a regular source of joy and laughter.

Let's start

after a long and exhausting brainstorming session i finally decided to start an own blog. i always felt that i have a lot to say, but (strangely) nobody wants to listen to what i have to say. so i said to myself (like i often do) i'll start a blog so the world can hear my amazing ideas and thoughts (yeah right, notice the lack of exaggeration).

if you're asking yourself: "what is this funny guy going to write about?", well i'll write about those things that interest me, like technology, art, politics, sports etc. i'll try to be funny and interesting, but keep in mind i'm not the new gruber, merlin mann or fake steve. i'm just your average joe trying to write some meaningful sentences.

i hope will have some fun together, i'll try to write daily several posts and answer your comments, put i can't promise i'll be able to this always.
